Dance Programs

 

Soul Dance Studios, provides our students with the opportunity to learn any number of styles. Students can walk through our doors with no experience, and by the time they leave years later, have developed their skills and a deep love for the art!

 

Students can begin at SDS at the age of Two, receiving a fun introduction to the world of dance, perfectly designed for little bodies. As they grow, students will venture out and take part in a number of different dance genre instruction. Our dance instructors are all experienced, professional industry members, who have the knowledge and skills to teach any student effectively! Students can learn how to dance in the styles of jazz, lyrical, ballet, hiphop, and more!

Recreational Stream

RECREATIONAL STREAM

 

RECREATIONAL STREAM classes available include Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet, Lyrical/Contemporary, Acrobatics and Tap. There are no set levels for Recreational classes – they are open to everyone regardless of whether or not the student is experienced or starting out as a beginner, and separated by age group. Through dance and performing arts we develop skills, build confidence and most importantly… have fun. Recreational classes perform just once per year, at the big Soul Dance Studios end of year concert. For those who are not interested in performing throughout the year and would prefer to just take weekly dance classes for fun and perform at the end of year concert we have a large range of fantastic classes for you to choose from.

 

 

PERFORMANCE STREAM

 

 

PERFORMANCE STREAM is for advanced dancers and those who show great promise, and who are interested in taking their dance training to the next level, learning a variety of different styles and having multiple performance opportunities throughout  including eisteddfods, competitions and local events.

Performance Stream

CLASSICAL EXTENSION PROGRAM

SDS Classical Extension Program (CEP) is a selective program offering young dancers the opportunity to further their classical ballet training and to focus and improve on their ballet foundation, extension, technique, strength, technical and artistic development. The CEP follows the B.C. method and is designed for those seeking further elite training in this area. While we do take into account their grade levels, the program's main focus is on ballet foundations, extension, technique, strength, technical and artistic development. Areas of focus: Core strength, foundation and technique, musicality, floor barre, Pilates, anatomy, body awareness, self-correction, coordination, flexibility and conditioning, vocabulary and theory.

ACROBATICS PROGRAM

 

Our Acrobatics programs create a specialist program that equips of students, jumping, tumbling and flipping! The programs are built for students of all abilities and skill level to assist them safely in performing amazing tricks!

Our classes start from five years old and a broken into age groups and skill level!

RECREATIONAL PROGRAM

The Recreational Program is designed for students at a beginning to intermediate level of dance, students who want to keep classes casual and fun or just starting on their dancing journey.

Students can commit to one or as many dance styles as they wish!

AGE GROUPS

Children are allocated to classes primarily based on age. This is to ensure that students are surrounded by children of similar age and ability level, and can progress and develop and the appropriate pace.

 

3-5 YEARS OLD

6-7 YEARS OLD

ELITE PROGRAM

ENTRY BY PRIVATE AUDITIONS ONLY

The Elite & Company programs are a parttime training schedule specifically designed for young performing art students who in vision pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. 

The program in structured so students participate in the below core compulsory dance styles to ensure development across all key areas of dance including;

  • Technique and conditioning 

  • Classical ballet / pointe (minimal two classes per week)

  • Jazz

  • Lyrical

  • Contemporary

       

 Additional electives classes also include;

  • Musical Theatre

  • Hip Hop

  • Acrobatics

  • Group Vocal

  • Drama

  • Tap

  • Classical Extension Program (Audition only)

 

SDS believes in exposing students to a wide range of professional-level training and performance opportunities for students within this program. With a primary focus on in-house training, SDS Elite Program also strategically includes external workshops, competitions, show auditions and performance work. Exposure to multiple facets of the performing arts industry is a key ingredient that contributes to the SDS Elite Program. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

Prior experience in dance is required to be successful through the private audition process. Depending on the previous dance training, it would be expected students to have anywhere from 3 years + experience. 

HOURS & LEVELS

 

The Elite program extended the dancer's knowledge and technique to an advanced and industry recognised level so teams are categorised into age levels.  (Mini, Petite, Junior, Teen & Senior) to ensure the right training is provided so with this knowledge requires a minimal commitment of contact hours from each successful participant; 

Mini – Minimum 7 - 10 hours per week

Petite - Minimum 10 hours per week

Junior - Minimum 11 hours per week

Teen - Minimum 11 hours per week

Seniors - Minimum 8 hours per week

 

AUDITION 

Entry into the SDS  Elite Program is strictly by audition only. Audition students are required to have a natural inclination for dance, motivation and discipline. We look for students who have a passion and love for dance. Auditions are organised throughout the year and or as required.
